Shunter gives us some snoek trace tips
| Motherbrim | here's another question guy's: I've made a couple of snoek traces but i tried weighting each one with a different weight. |
| Shunter | I never Weight mine, Snoek tend to attack upwards from below. Personaly I think you will be better off without weights. The trick to catching snoek is paddling as fast as you can. the faster you paddle the more snoek you will catch. Also fish just behing the backline around the bigger sand banks. Snoek usually hang out together in these areas. |
| Motherbrim | cool, also when tying up the fillet onto the wire do u jus tie up that part of the fillet around the swival and leave the other piece to flap around...someone told me to not even put the hook into the fillet, jus tie it up around the suval only ? |
| Shunter | Thats it. by having it loose like that it has awsome movement. When you put the hook through the fillet it often causes it to break off at that point and you are left with almost nothing. When you tie it onto the swivel make sure that it is small and neat and fits nicely under the skirt. Then it swims beautifully. |
| Shunter | Also tie it onto the top of the swivel. The part closest to the skirt. Less chance of it sliding down. |
Shaun I do weight one of my baits down when fishing for Snoek and on most
occasions it is the one on the bottom that I catch with! I also put my
hook through the bait but tie the cotton only on the top leaving a nice
flap at the bottom, works well for me! If you want to put a weight on let
the line out 10m and put a sinker to the line with an elastic band loop it
over and pull tight it will hold its position!

I'll also get some pics of another trace I have been experimenting with for a whole red eye. Also works well.
A whole Sard is too big. Red eye of about 15 cm is perfect. Trace is similar to a Couta trace with only one treble instead of two. Use a small size 4 hook in the front which goes into the red eyes mouth and use a treble about 10 cm behind that like on a couta trace. I use an octopuss skirt that can cover the red eyes head tightly so it doesn't spin when pulling it fast. place the treble into the under belly of the red eye. I'll arrange pics for the wesite this weekend. Also don't forget to use lighter trace and smaller swivel than what you would use on a couta trace. No 4 (17Kg) trace works fine.
